To achieve this, APIS will combine data collected from beehives equipped with pollen traps and smart monitoring systems, aerobiological samplers and advanced mathematical models. The integration of these data sources will enable the development of decision-support tools that contribute to more efficient and sustainable vineyard management.

The project’s key objectives include the early detection of fungal diseases through data obtained from the hives, the improvement of phytosanitary risk prediction models, the estimation of grape production through the analysis of pollen collected by bees, and the assessment of microplastic presence in agricultural environments.

In addition, APIS will enhance knowledge of the biodiversity associated with vineyards and explore new biotechnological applications, such as the study of yeasts present in “bee bread” and their potential use in winemaking processes.

Through this research, the project aims to contribute to reducing the use of plant protection products, improving the sustainability and competitiveness of the wine sector, and creating new diversification opportunities for wineries through activities linked to beekeeping and wine tourism.

Through its participation in APIS, Bodegas LA HORRA further strengthens its commitment to innovation, sustainability and the transfer of knowledge within the agri-food sector.

The APIS project has a total budget of €599,989.59 and has been awarded funding of €595,878.84. The initiative is co-financed by the European Union through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), which contributes 80% of the funding, and by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), which provides the remaining 20%. The Directorate-General for Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-Food Training (DGDRIFA) is the authority responsible for managing this funding programme.
